Font Shop 2009 YTD bestsellers

FontShop has blogged about is 2009 bestsellers. Always interested to see what’s en vogue type-wise. I was a little surprised—although not really upon further reflection—about the resurgence of slab serifs.  I’m  a fan of Xavier Durpé’s Vista Slab, nice to see it selling well.

Jonathan Hoefler muses on what next

Jonathan Hoefler recently blogged about a talk he gave at last years AIGA Design Conference…
Most of the talks that we’ve given are lost to the sands of time, but this afternoon I was happy to discover that one of our favorite presentations lives on. For the AIGA Design Conference in Denver, we were asked to meditate on the topic of “What’s Next,” for which we presented a study of typographic history — and why the ‘historical revival’ might be a twentieth century idea whose time has passed.
Always fascinating, plus who doesn’t love underpants references.

Paul Rand Tribute Site

A tribute to Paul Rand

An excellent new site covering the prolific Paul Rand.  Of note is the excellent coverage of his editorial design work with Apparel Arts.

Stephen is a thoughtful, precise designer, flawless in his craftsmanship and expansive in his conceptual thinking. He's a well-read guy, with a surprising career history and love of learning. It all informs his work. Stephen is equally at home and gladly challenged by an assignment in type design as he is with corporate identity work, interactive, or poster design. He's a consummate talent, and an artful asset to any design initiative
